On December 3, a week before the anniversary of the Sandy Hook school shooting, the House, by voice vote, renewed a ban on undetectable plastic firearms. H.R. 3626, sponsored by Representatives Howard Coble (NC-R) and Steve Israel (NY-D), extends for 10 years a 1988 law requiring that guns be manufactured with at least some metal components to ensure that they can be detected by x-ray machines and other security devices.
