South Africa has been a member of the United Nations since July 11, 1945. Its two-year term as an elected member of the UN Security Council expires on December 31, 2012. Nozipho Mxakato-Diseko is South Africa’s Permanent Representative to the UN Organizations in Vienna, Austria.
