Abigail Noel Fisher applied for undergraduate admission at the University of Texas at Austin (UT) in 2008. She did not graduate in the top 10 percent of her high school class, so she did not qualify for automatic acceptance, but was placed in a pool of other candidates who were rated by the university’s admissions team based on a number of factors, including personal experience, grades, test scores, application essays, and race.
