Physicians for Compassionate Care, founded by a group of Oregon doctors, has a membership of more than 1,000 physicians and other health professionals. It is dedicated to preserving the traditional relation of the physician and patient as one in which the physician’s primary task is to heal the patient and minimize pain. The association encourages medical research into the newest techniques to lessen pain and depression among the dying, and works to educate the public on the dangers of euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide.
