He was a practicing attorney from 1967 to 1973, a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives from 1973 to 1975, owner of Rhodes Oil Company from 1975 to 1979, Counsel for Seaboard Systems Railroad from 1979 to 1973, Vice President of CSX Corporation from 1983 to 1991, and Counsel for the Interstate Commerce Commission from 1991 to 1993.
