Senator Leahy was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1974. He was a State’s Attorney of Chittenden County, Vermont, from 1966 to 1974. He chairs the Judiciary Committee and also sits on the Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee and the Appropriations Committee, where he chairs the Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs.
