Senator Murkowski has served in the U.S. Senate since 2002, when she was appointed by her father, Governor Frank Murkowski (R), to fill the vacancy caused by his resignation. She served in the Alaska House of Representatives from 1998 to 2002. She serves on the following committees: Appropriations, where she is the Ranking Minority Member of the Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies; Energy and Natural Resources, where she is Ranking Minority Member of the full committee; Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions; and Indian Affairs.
