Senator Schatz was appointed in 2012 to fill the seat of deceased Senator Daniel Inouye. He served in the Hawaii House of Representatives from 1998 to 2006, as Chair of the Hawaii Democratic Party from 2008 to 2010, and as Lieutenant Governor of Hawaii from 2010 to 2012.
