Representative Thornberry, of the Thirteenth District of Texas, was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1994. He served as Legislative Counsel to U.S. Representative Thomas Loeffler (TX-R) from 1983 to 1985, as Chief of Staff to U.S. Representative Larry Combest (TX-R) from 1985 to 1988, and as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs at the U.S. Department of State from 1988 to 1989.
