On March 1, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted, 2 to 1, to block a new Internet privacy rule from taking effect. The rule would have required Internet service providers to take stronger steps to protect consumers’ personal data. It was part of a larger set of broadband privacy rules approved by the FCC in October under the Obama Administration and scheduled to take effect the following day.
