The ongoing civil war in Yemen has its roots in the “Arab Spring” — a series of pro-democracy movements that began in the spring of 2011 and spread across several largely Muslim countries. These events brought regime changes that many hoped would usher in political reforms and social justice. For the most part, however, the reality has been more war and violence.
