Paid Family Leave
On February 12, 2019, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (NY-D) and Representative Rosa DeLauro (NY-D) reintroduced legislation to give workers up to 12 weeks of paid leave at 66 percent of their monthly wages for a pregnancy, the birth or adoption of a child, recovery from a serious illness, or to care for a seriously ill family member. The Family and Medical Insurance Leave Act (or FAMILY Act), builds on the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) of 1993, which allows elibigle employees to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for the reasons listed above.
