The ACLU “works to defend preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution and laws of the United States.” Ronald Newman joined the ACLU in 2017. He oversees the National Political Advocacy Department, which houses the organization’s Washington Legislative Office. He previously served the organization as Director of Strategic Initiatives within the National Political Advocacy Department. Newman served as Director of Human Rights and Refugee Protection on the National Security Council in the Obama Administration.
