Wildfire Relief
In a March 28, 2019 letter to David Bernhardt, the Acting Secretary of the U. S. Department of the Interior, and Sonny Perdue, the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, eight senators requested that wildfire prevention receive more funding than is currently allotted in the budget. In a budget fix released in March of 2018, agencies had the ability to address “fire borrowing,” which is the practice of permitting Federal agencies to spend money earmarked for disasters to fight wildfires; in other words, fire borrowing means that governments do not have to take money away from fire prevention programs…
