The National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO), founded in 1978, is a coalition of U.S. police unions and associations that advocates for the interests of U.S. law enforcement officers through political action and education. NAPO represents more than 1,000 police units and associations and more than 241,000 sworn law enforcement officers. William J. Johnson has served as NAPO’s executive director since January 2002. He’s responsible for the day-to-day operations of the association and also serves as its legal counsel, writing and filing briefs in the Supreme Court and various appellate courts across the country.
