Chief Acevedo was the head of the Houston Police Department (HPD) from November 2016 to March 2021. He was the HPD’s first Hispanic chief of police. He will soon be the chief of police for the Miami Police Department. He began his career in law enforcement with the California Highway Patrol in 1986. Prior to leading the HPD, he spent nine years as the chief of police for the city of Austin, Texas. He is also the current president of the Major Cities Chiefs Association.
