Former Independent Counsel, Iran-Contra Investigation
Lawrence Walsh was independent counsel in the Iran-contrainvestigation from 1986 to 1993. He began his career as a prosecutingattorney for New York City District Attorney Thomas E. Dewey inthe late 1930s, and served for eight years as Counsel to Deweyafter Dewey was elected governor. Afterwards, he was Counsel tothe New York Public Service Commission, and then was appointedby President Eisenhower to be Deputy Attorney General of the UnitedStates. Mr. Walsh then spent 20 years in private practice, whileaccepting temporary public positions. He was president of theAmerican Bar Association from 1975 to 1976.
