The Superfund Cleanup Acceleration Act

The major provisons of S. 8, the Superfund Cleanup Acceleration Act of 1997, as introduced by Senator Robert C. Smith (NH-R), are as follows: Brownfields Revitalization. Amends the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980 (CERCLA) to direct the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to establish programs to provide grants to eligible entities (including local government units, redevelopment agencies, and Indian Tribes) for site characterization and assessment of, and capitalization of loan funds for, response actions at brownfield facilities.
