Representative Jackson Lee, of the Eighteenth District of Texas, was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1994. She served on the Houston City Council from 1990 to 1994. She is a member of the Judiciary Committee and the Science Committee. The following is from the July 24, 2003, House floor debate on H.R. 2427, the Pharmaceutical Market Access Act. African Americans are suffering disproportionately and mightily under the current laws crafted to protect the drug companies and their inflated prices. And make no mistake, the suffering will only get worse if we do not pass this bill….
