Senator Warner was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1978. He was an Assistant U.S. Attorney from 1956 to 1960, U.S. Navy Undersecretary from 1969 to 1972, U.S. Navy Secretary from 1972 to 1974, and Director of the American Revolution Bicentennial Commission from 1974 to 1976. He chairs the Armed Services Committee, and is a member of the Environment and Public Works Committee; the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions; and the Select Committee on Intelligence.
