Recent Action on UN Peacekeeping

United Nations peacekeeping has been plagued by financial difficulties since the 1960s. Despite the fact that peacekeeping costs are borne by all member states, many countries have continued to pay their peacekeeping assessments late or only partially. All member states share the costs of UN peacekeeping operations. The General Assembly apportions these expenses according to a scale of assessments that takes into account the relative economic wealth of member states. Permanent members of the Security Council are required to pay a larger share. Countries also may volunteer personnel, equipment, supplies, or other support for a peacekeeping mission.
