He was Director of the Harvard International Seminar from 1951 to 1971, and Director of the Harvard Defense Studies Program from 1958 to 1971. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1973 along with Le Duc Tho of Vietnam. He currently heads the consulting firm Kissinger and Associates.
