Recent Action on Medical Aid to Africa
Funding for global HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis (TB), and malaria programs is included in two appropriations bills: Foreign Operations, which for Fiscal Year (FY) 2007 included some $3.6 billion for the three diseases, and Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education (Labor-HHS-Education), which provided approximately $121.9 million in FY 2007 for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Global AIDS program, under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). In addition, P.L. 108_25, the U.S. Leadership Against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria Act, authorized $15 billion to be spent from FY 2004 to FY 2008 on fighting HIV/AIDS, TB, and malaria. FY…
