Most programs of Federal aid to K-12 education are authorized by the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). The ESEA was most recently amended and reauthorized by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLBA, P.L. 107_110). Virtually all ESEA programs were explicitly authorized through Fiscal Year (FY) 2007, although they were automatically extended for one additional year when Congress did not act upon reauthorization legislation by December 31, 2005.
