Food Stamp Eligibility and Benefits

On October 1, 2008, the Food Stamp Program (FSP) was renamed the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in the 2008 Farm Bill, reflecting the program’s recent modernization and greater focus on nutrition. Administered at the Federal level by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), SNAP is the Nation’s largest domestic food and nutrition assistance program for low-income Americans and serves as a source of demand for the products of American farmers and food industries.
