Government lawyers argued that, although the distribution of marijuana to those with a doctor’s permission had been approved by California voters in a State ballot proposition, such distribution still violated Federal law. On May 19, 1998, a district court filed an injunction barring the aforementioned clubs from growing or distributing marijuana.
