Van Aaron Hughes, Counsel of Record Karen Sutton and Kimberly Hinton are identical twin sisters who were interviewed by United Airlines for pilot positions. After United discovered the Petitioners both suffered from severe myopia, they were informed that they did not meet United’s vision requirements. The sisters then filed suit in district court, claiming a violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act. The district court granted United Airlines’ motion to dismiss, and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the decision. On January 8, 1999, the Supreme Court granted certiorari.
