Kevin K. Russell, Counsel of Record Lilly M. Ledbetter was hired as aproduction supervisor at Goodyear Tire & Rubber’s plant in Gadsden, Alabama,in 1979. In 1985, she was promoted to area manager, a position she held untilJanuary 1989, when she was transferred to a job on the factory floor. Sheaccepted early retirement several months later. On March 25, 1998, shortlyafter receiving an anonymous note detailing the salaries of other area managersat Goodyear, Ledbetter filed a charge of discrimination with the EqualEmployment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
