This case is in its fifteenth year of contentious litigation. The Defendants are antiabortion activists who employ a protest tactic they call "rescues," in which they and other activists physically block access to abortion clinics so that the patients and staff cannot get in or out of the buildings. Plaintiffs use words less benign than "rescue" to describe the Defendants’ activities. We will refer to them as "protest missions" in the hopes that this will be understood as a neutral term.
