On May 14, 2001, 30 police officers and public safety dispatchers all over the age of 40 and all employed by the Defendants filed suit pursuant to the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA). They claimed injuries as a result of an allegedly age-discriminatory performance pay plan implemented by the Defendants in order to grant substantially larger salary increases to police officers and public safety dispatchers under the age of 40.
