Senator Leahy was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1974. He was a State’s Attorney of Chittenden County, Vermont, from 1966 to 1974. He is the Ranking Minority Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and also serves on the Appropriations Committee and the Agriculture Committee. The following is from the April 22, 2004, Senate floor debate on a motion to proceed on S. 2290, the Fairness in Asbestos Injury Resolution Act.I am disappointed my friends across the aisle are insisting on proceeding to this partisan asbestos bill. I say that because the legislation is not ready for prime time….
