Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice
The United States is a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and host country for the UN headquarters. It joined the UN on October 24, 1945. Condoleezza Rice was appointed U.S. secretary of state in January 2004. From 2001 to 2004, she served as U.S. national security advisor.
