Andrew J. Pincus, Counsel of Record Daniel Girmai Negusie was a citizen and resident of Eritrea. In 1994, when he was 18 years old, he was forced into work in salt mines and was then conscripted into the Eritrean navy. In 1998, war erupted between Eritrea and Ethiopia, and Negusie refused to fight. He was sent to prison, where he was tortured and forced to do hard labor.
