Senator Levin was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1978. He was a member of the Detroit City Council from1969 to 1977 and President of the City Council from 1973 to 1977. He chairs the Armed Services Committee and sits on the following committees: Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, where he chairs the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations; Small Business and Entrepreneurship; and the Select Committee on Intelligence.
