In 2006, Carol Anne Bond discovered that her close friend, Myrlinda Haynes, was having an affair with her husband and had become pregnant. As part of a revenge plot, Bond, a microbiologist who worked for a drug company, stole a bottle of 10-chlorophenoxarsine from her employer and bought some potassium dichromate over the Internet. She then placed the chemicals, which are harmful and possible fatal when touched or ingested, onto objects that Haynes might make contact with — her mailbox, door knob, and car handle.
