The following Federal nutrition assistance programs are adminis-tered by the Food and Nutrition Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. National School Lunch Program (NSLP) The National School Lunch Program is a federally assisted meal program operating in more than 101,000 public and nonprofit private schools and residential child care institutions. In 2009, it provided nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches to more than 31 million children each school day.
