The Laogai Research Foundation is a nonprofit organizationdedicated to collecting information about China’s vast systemof forced labor camps. Harry Wu established the foundation in1992 to gather information on the Chinese gulag known as the Laogai— the most extensive forced labor camp system in the worldtoday — and to disseminate it to as many people as possible.A former political prisoner who spent 19 years in the Laogai,Harry Wu is also the foundation’s executive director. Throughhis research, the Foundation has identified more than 1,100 Laogaicamps, many of which produce products for export to dozens ofcountries around the world, including the United States….
