Alberto Gonzalez was sworn in as U.S. Attorney General on February 3, 2005. He previously served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Texas and as Texas Secretary of State. Prior to his appointment as Secretary of State, he was the General Counsel to then Texas Governor George W. Bush. Before that, he was a partner with the law firm of Vinson & Elkins L.L.P. in Houston and an adjunct professor at the University of Houston Law Center.
