On December 19, 2006, Chase M. Cantrell and a group of other students, faculty, and prospective applicants filed suit against the State of Michigan, challenging the constitutionality of Proposal 2 as applied to university admissions. In January 2007 their suit was joined with a similar one filed in November 2006 by the Coalition to Defend Affirmative Action, Integration and Immigrant Rights and Fight for Equality by Any Means Necessary.
