President Barack Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) into law on March 23, 2010. Among the sweeping reforms of the U.S. health care system included in the law were new requirements for the minimum acceptable level of care provided by health insurance companies. One source of controversy was the provision that health plans must provide contraceptive care to women at no out-of-pocket cost.
