Colorado’s Mental Health Practice Act requires that professional mental health practitioners be licensed, certified or registered with the state and subject to multiple regulations regarding the types of treatment they can provide. On Sept. 5, 2019, Colorado prohibited licensed practitioners from performing “conversion therapy” — a practice or treatment that “attempts or purports to change an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity — on clients under 18 years of age.
