In April 1980, Bobby James Moore and two accomplices attempted to rob a supermarket in Houston, Texas. During the crime, Moore shot and killed a 70-year-old store employee. Moore was arrested 10 days later in Louisiana and subsequently convicted of murder and sentenced to death. Moore initially challenged his conviction based on a claim of ineffective legal counsel during the sentencing phase of his trial. In 2001, resentencing proceedings once again resulted in the death penalty for Moore.
