Joseph Margulies, Counsel of RecordShafiq Rasul, Asif Iqbal, Mamdouth Habib, and David Hicks were captured and detained by U.S. allies in action related to the U.S. military operation to topple the Taliban in Afghanistan in late 2001. Since early 2002, they have been in the custody of the United States at Guantánamo Bay Naval Station, Cuba.
