The standoff between Apple and the FBI over the locked smartphone used by a shooter in the December 2 San Bernardino, California, terrorist attack ended with an outside party helping the Federal Government unlock the device. That resolution failed to address the broader privacy and security issues involved, however, as well as concerns about the cases’s implications for the future of U.S. technology and innovation.
