Senator Lott was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1988. He was Administrative Assistant to U.S. Representative William Colmer (MS-D) from 1968 to 1972, and represented the Fifth District of Mississippi in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1972 to 1988.
