The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) is responsible for the management of inland fisheries, wildlife, and recreational boating for the Commonwealth. The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) leads efforts to protect native Virginia wildlife and plants. Matthew Strickler oversees DGIF and DCR. He was previously Senior Policy Advisor to Democratic Members of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Natural Resources.
