Waxman, Solicitor GeneralThe United States has an interest in this case because the resolution of Respondents’ constitutional challenge could affect the validity of Federal campaign contribution limits. Seth P. Waxman was nominated to be Solicitor General by President Clinton on September 17, 1997, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in November. Named Assistant Solicitor General in October 1996, he had been Acting Solicitor General since September 1, 1997. He is a 1977 graduate of Yale Law School.
