Representative Pelosi, of the Eighth District of California, was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1987. She was the Northern Chair of the California Democratic Party from 1977 to 1981, State Chair from 1981 to 1983, and Finance Chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee from 1985 to 1987.
