The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Marine Fisheries Service, a division of the U.S. Department of Commerce, is responsible for the stewardship of the management, conservation, and protection of living marine resources within the United States’ Exclusive Economic Zone (water 3 to 200 miles offshore). Steven Murawski is responsible for 30 laboratories, eight offshore research vessels, and 1,400 staff throughout the United States.
