No Child Left Behind Exemptions
President Obama, in a February 11 White House announcement, said that 10 States will be exempted from the requirements of No Child Left Behind, the landmark education law of the George W. Bush Administration. To be excused from the law, the States had to show that they had plans of their own that would prepare children for college and careers, set targets for improving achievement, and reward their best performing schools and help the worst performing ones.
